During a recent interview with Glamour UK for their digital cover story, Shakira expressed her disbelief at the timing of the drama just before the Super Bowl. She was completely freaking out about it. It’s interesting to note that Kaitlyn has a background as an Assistant Style & Beauty Editor for PEOPLE magazine.
The night before her highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime performance in 2020, Shakira faced a beauty challenge that threw a wrench in her usual routine. While trying to touch up her hair color, the singer ended up with an unexpected result – her hair turned black instead of the intended shade. In an interview with Glamour UK, Shakira, who was also celebrating her birthday that day, shared the story of this hair mishap that occurred just hours before the big event. Despite the stressful situation, Shakira and her colorist worked quickly to correct the color error, making it a race against time to get her hair back to its original hue before the Super Bowl show.
“I had to dye my hair again, this time using 40 volume peroxide. It left my scalp feeling so irritated,” she shared. “And after that, well, let’s just say a lot of interesting things happened.” The conversation then turned to her ongoing struggles with her hair. Shakira jokingly said, “I can’t even begin to explain the crazy things that happen to me – it’s like my hair has a mind of its own.” “But you know what? Despite all the trouble it causes me, my hair somehow manages to bounce back,” Shakira added. “It’s pretty tough and always keeps me on my toes.”
The well-known pop star known for hits like “She Wolf” made headlines in February 2020 when she and Lopez became the first two Latina women to headline the highly-anticipated halftime show. Despite some controversy surrounding the event – including other artists declining the opportunity in support of Colin Kaepernick – Shakira stood by her decision. She viewed the 12-minute performance as an opportunity to showcase diversity on a global platform. According to the singer, it was important for both her and J.Lo to represent a variety of minority groups during their show, with Shakira also wanting to pay tribute to her Middle Eastern heritage. Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Shakira expressed her belief that they successfully achieved this goal.
